C112 - Lacy Motif Vest

Have you seen those beautiful crocheted motif garments and wondered about their construction? Motifs are too delicate to be sewn together. On top of that you need partial motifs to create round necklines. How do you do that?

In this class Nazanin S. Fard (Nazee) will teach you make a beautiful motif and join it with others as you go (no sewing involved) to make the basic shape of a vest. We will also discuss the way to make it into a cardigan.

You will learn to measure your body and check the gauge of the motif to figure out how many motifs you will need for your vest. You will also look at the difference in gauge between a motif worked in thread and one in yarn, and decide which one fits your need.

The class has three lessons. In the lesson-1 you will learn to measure your body, make the first motif and check the gauge and see the difference in the size when the motif is worked in thread or yarn. In lesson-2 you will learn to draw the basic shape of the vest and the joining process of motifs. We will also discuss adding sleeves if you like to have a cardigan. In lesson-3 you will learn to make half motifs to create a round neckline and a beautiful border to finish your vest/cardigan.

This is a gorgeous vest. You will enjoy working on this project and later wearing it. Checkout Tools & Supplies needed for this class.

C104 - Lace Vest

Crochet as an art form has the reputation that it is perfect for household items such as Afghans, doilies and dishcloths and not garments. Many do not make a crocheted garment, saying that either they do not like the produced fabric or they do not like its appearance. Usually the major problem is that they do not know how to make changes to the pattern to make the garment fit, or they use the wrong material, e.g. wrong yarn, wrong hook for the yarn, etc.

Nazanin S. Fard (Nazee) has been designing crochet garments for years. Wearing her own crochet designs, she had surprised people by telling them that her garment was crocheted not knit. This misconception didn't just come from ordinary people, but from avid knitters and crocheters.

In this class, she offers a vest design with an easy lace pattern. However, you do not just follow the instructions. She will show you how to take your own measurements or anybody else for that matter and make the pattern, fit. After taking this class you will understand the basics of creating a wonderful garment.

You can use the recommended yarn or choose something to your liking. The only important issue is to learn how to use the actual pattern to make it your own. Checkout Tools & Supplies needed for this class.

C134 - Beginner's Guide to Tunisian Crochet

Whether you call it Tunisian crochet, Afghan stitch, tricot, or shepherd's knitting this is an interesting type of crochet. Worked on a long hook that resembles a knitting needle with a hook at the end, the Tunisian Simple Stitch produces a fabric with a near square grid pattern that is perfect for decorating with colorful cross-stitch.

Join Darla J. Fanton as she shows you how easy this technique is as you create your 16-inch (40.6 cm) square Wild Rose Pillow. Darla will teach two different methods for working the cross-stitches that form the rose. One of the methods is rarely discussed in crochet reference books. It results in cross-stitch that is nearly invisible on the reverse side. This is a very useful skill to know if you decide to make an afghan or other project where both sides are visible.

In Lesson-2 Darla will show how to work the color changes in as you go, totally eliminating the need to do any cross-stitch. By working the same design twice in the two different methods you have the opportunity to view the subtle differences in color and texture between them. Darla will also share design tips with you so you may create your own Tunisian crochet projects. Checkout Tools & Supplies needed for this class.

C130 - Beginner's Guide to the Double-ended Crochet Hook

If you haven't yet experienced the fun of the double-ended crochet hook join Darla J. Fanton as she shares the magic! You will learn how to make crocheted fabric that is wonderfully soft, looks like a cross between knit and crochet and as a bonus is totally reversible with a distinctly different look to each side. By working with two or more colors of yarn and regularly turning your hook you create a fabric that is unique. There truly is no "right" or "wrong" side to this type of crochet.

You do not need any crochet experience in order to learn this intriguing form of crochet. In the Beginner's Guide Darla clearly explains each step of the process without abbreviations. She then provides the same instructions in standard crochet language so that upon completion of the course you will be ready to work any double-ended hook patterns you find in books or magazines.

As you learn the two basic stitches that are the building blocks of all double-ended hook designs you will make a pair of unique reversible potholders and a dishcloth that will have your family and friends asking, "How did you do that?" Checkout Tools & Supplies needed for this class.

C132 - Double Hook Crochet In the Round Bolster Pillow

With the recent development of flexible double-ended crochet hooks it is now possible to work double hook projects "in the round".

Join Darla J. Fanton as she teaches you how to create a unique, reversible tube of fabric. There will be no seams to sew to complete your project! The skills you learn in this class may be carried over to other tubular double hook projects, such as stocking caps. As you learn this interesting twist on working with the double hook you will create a pillow cover designed to fit a standard 9" (22.9 cm) x 14" (35.6 cm) bolster pillow form.
Your pillow cover will be totally reversible. When you are ready for a change, simply unbutton the end flaps, turn the cover inside out, put it back on the pillow form and re-button the flaps. A fresh new look in an instant! The easy-on, easy-off styling comes in handy at laundry time as well.

Students should be familiar with how to work under the horizontal bar and the vertical bar in the basic double-ended hook technique.

Choose yarns to match your décor and get ready for Lesson-1 where you will learn a different method of picking up stitches in your beginning chain, how to join rounds and the pattern for the body of the pillow cover. In Lesson-2 you will learn a method of decreasing as you work the flaps that create the ends of the pillow cover. You will also learn how to attach the button to the pillow form so the cover buttons on with ease. Checkout Tools & Supplies needed for this class.
