Seaming heavy items

As we are getting closer to fall and the weather is cooling off, heavier yarns are coming out of our stash. These days, many wonderful chunky yarns are on the market and we can make beautiful garments with them in no time. The only problem is finishing and sewing the seams.
If we use chunky yarn for sewing seams, most likely we get a bulky seam, which is unsightly and uncomfortable. There are a couple of ways to solve this problem:

  1. If the yarn has two plies or more, use just one or two plies to sew the seams. This will reduce the bulk on the seams and create a more comfortable garment.

  2. The other way to solve this problem is to use a lighter weight yarn in similar color, for seaming. This will also reduce the bulk and creates a flatter seam and more comfortable fit. This technique is useful for those popular furry and knobby yarns too.
