Laundry & Dry Cleaning Symbols

When we buy yarn, one of the most important questions in our minds is how to clean it? Can it be machine-washed? At what temperature? Should it be hand-washed? Can I put my garment in the dryer? etc.

This information should be provided on the yarn-band. Some yarn-bands have this information written on them; just read them and decide if that is acceptable to you. However, some others, especially those that are produced in countries other than the USA, use international symbols that are hard to understand unless you know exactly what they mean. This is one of the most vital pieces of information for a successful project, as cleaning your piece over time is very important.

The complete symbol set contains many symbols that some of them might not be related to needlework. The following subset is more relevant to needlework.
